Suspect, three others killed in Colorado Springs shooting spree

Four people, including the suspect, were killed in Colorado Springs this morning as a man began shooting at random victims, according to several news sources.

KRDO in Colorado Springs reports:

The exact timeline of events after that has not been confirmed by investigators, but we know that a bicyclist was found shot to death on Prospect Street. Two women were also shot, apparently by the same man, in the area of E. Platte Ave. and El Paso St.

Police later found the suspect near Platte Avenue and Wahsatch Avenue. That is where police said he opened fire on officers. Police shot back, killing him.

Deputies reported that the suspect was carrying multiple weapons.

He Shot A Gun At Himself Underwater, And The Reason Why Is Just Insane

Everyone knows that pointing a gun at yourself or someone else is never a good idea, but this guy seems to have made a hobby out of it. Instead of playing sports or creating art, he spends his time testing incredible theories. For this one, he got into a pool and stood directly in front of a submerged gun. After a few seconds, he pulled the trigger.

This is physics at its finest.

Thank goodness we didn’t actually just witness a man shooting himself. Water is essential to human life, and this is just a very literal interpretation of that fact.

The Issue With Halloween Is That You Don’t Know Who’s Faking It And Who’s Crazy

Around 5 a.m. on October 30, two costumed men crashed a Halloween party in San Antonio. One of them was dressed as Freddy Krueger. After a brief argument, he pulled a gun and opened fire, wounding five people.

Halloween has always made me a little nervous. With all the scary costumes about, you never know who’s just having fun and who might actually be unhinged. I always thought it was irrational fear but then I heard this story.

The five injured victims, one woman and four men, are expected to make full recoveries. As of now, the shooters are still at large.

Watch as this news reporter describes the events that led a man dressed as Freddy Krueger to shoot five people.

Prosecutor To Seek The Death Penalty In The Chapel Hill Shooting Case

The Durham County district attorney’s office filed a notice Monday that it would seek the death penalty in the case against accused Chapel Hill shooter Craig Hicks.

Durham County District Attorney Roger Echols filed a notice Monday that his office intends to seek the death penalty against accused Chapel Hill shooter Craig Hicks.

Hicks, 46, is charged with the murders of his neighbors Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, Yusor Mohammad, 21, and her sister Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19.

On Feb. 10, Hicks allegedly shot the three students execution-style in the head inside the Chapel Hill apartment of Barakat and Mohammad.

At around 5 p.m., Chapel Hill police responded to a 911 call regarding shots fired and people screaming at the Finley Forest Apartment Complex in Chapel Hill, according to warrants.

When the officers arrived at the scene, a witness hiding behind a building ran at them and pointed toward Barakat and Mohammad’s apartment. She told them that her “friend was over there bleeding.”

Inside the apartment, officers first found Barakat who was “bleeding from the head and showed no signs of life,” according to the warrant.

The police found one female body in the kitchen near the dishwasher and another female lying in the doorway, near the kitchen. Both women showed no signs of life.

A witness told police that after he heard shots, he noticed “a white male, approximately his mid-forties, wearing a beard and with a balding spot on the top of his head, wearing a gold Carhart coat, walking fast from the back of the apartment building.”

According to the witness, the suspect entered a gold car and drove away from the scene.

Hicks later turned himself in and allegedly told investigators that the killings were over a parking space dispute. He was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and was held in jail without bond.

The families of the slain individuals have maintained that the killings were a hate crime against the three devout Muslims.

“Even though the murderer can say it was a parking dispute, whatever he was picking on, he came to that apartment with his gun two or three times before the murder, on different occasions,” the father of the two women killed, Dr. Mohammed Abu-Salha, said in an interview on MSNBC.

“My daughter, Yusor, complained and she told us she felt that man hated them for the way they looked and the Muslim garb they wore. She felt the heat has risen after she moved into the apartment and her friends came to visit and most of them wore Muslim attire. So she was worried about that.”

The DA’s office has said that the deaths are also being investigated as a possible hate crime. The FBI has also opened a federal civil rights investigation.

A probable cause hearing in the Hicks case is pending.

13 American Mass Shootings That The Media Never Told You About

You can say what you want about the efficacy of gun restrictions in the U.S., but there is one deadly reality that cannot be ignored: all of these mass shootings are devastating. The most disheartening thing of all is that little has been done to address this issue in America aside from politicians offering empty platitudes.

And every single month, there’s more bad news. It feels inescapable. Unfortunately, the media has been taking it easy on us. The fact of the matter is that 355 mass shootings have taken place on U.S. soil since January of 2015, and we’ve only heard about a small fraction of them.

Here’s a map of the cases that were heavily covered by the media in 2015.

These include the events in San Bernardino, Colorado Springs, Chattanooga, Charleston, and Roseburg.

An accurate representation of mass shootings in the United States since January, however, looks more like this. There have been upwards of 355 in total.

This map shows a clear disparity between what we’re being told by the mainstream media and what’s really going on. Let’s take a look at a few specific shootings that never made national or international headlines.

1. Savannah, Georgia

On December 2, 2015 — the same exact day as the San Bernardino shooting — one person was killed and several were injured in an overnight shooting in Savannah, Georgia. It was only reported on one local news network.

2. Amarillo, Texas

This shooting, which left several gravely wounded, happened near Hamlet Elementary School in Amarillo, Texas, back in April of this year.

3. Menasha, Wisconsin

Five were shot and four were killed during this random mass shooting on a footbridge in Menasha, Wisconsin, earlier this year. This particular case did receive some national news coverage, but not enough, given the shocking nature of the crime.

4. Brooklyn, New York

Disturbingly enough, six were shot and four were killed during a funeral in Brooklyn back in April. Major New York City-based publications ran the story, but few others published any information.

5. Gates, New York

Seven were shot, six were wounded, and one was killed in this shooting outside of a pub in Gates, New York. This also took place in April of 2015.

6. Shreveport, Louisiana

Eight were injured after a shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, in July of this year. No one was killed, but civilians and officers were hurt in the process. One of those injured was a suspected shooter.

7. Tucson, Arizona

An entire family of five was killed in this murder-suicide back in May. Police are still unsure of what motivated the crime.

8. Deer Lodge, Montana

This shooting, which killed five people, occurred after a man’s wife started “mocking him.” He became enraged and killed his wife, their children, and himself.

9. Seattle, Washington

This actually took place just last month. Five were injured after a senseless drive-by shooting in Seattle. Four were shot, and one was hurt by shrapnel.

10. Santa Ana, California

One was killed and four were injured in the crossfire of a deadly altercation in March of 2015.

11. Albuquerque, New Mexico

One person was killed and six were gravely injured after a skate park in Albuquerque erupted in gunfire. The person killed was a high school student.

12. Ocala, Florida

A 19-year-old girl was killed and five more young people were injured during this shooting, which took place at a night club near Palm Beach State College.

13. Douglasville, Georgia

Small children were among those killed when one man shot his ex-wife. Neighborhood kids reportedly liked the woman’s dog, and could often be found playing outside of her house. When they heard gunshots inside the home, they fled. The shooter reloaded after killing his ex so that he could kill the children as they ran away.

No matter what your stance on gun control may be, it’s clear that the people of this country deserve justice for what’s happened. That was just a small sampling of an insane amount of mass murders, and it makes you wonder why there was so little news coverage. If they don’t consider these cases important, then what is?

Muslims In Norway Form Human Shield Around Synagogue In Sign Of Solidarity

More than 1,000 people attended the peaceful demonstration in Oslo, with many holding hands and surrounding the synagogue in a protective ring.

Hundreds of Muslims formed a human protective shield around an Oslo synagogue Saturday in a sign of solidarity with the Jewish community there, Reuters reported.

Pictures of the event circulated through social media tagged with the hashtag #ringofpeace.

People chanted, “No to anti-Semitism, no to Islamophobia,” as they held hands around Oslo’s only synagogue, according to Reuters.

“Humanity is one and we are here to demonstrate that,” Zeeshan Abdullah, one of the protest’s organizers, said to the crowd.

Omar Abdel Hamid El-Hussein was killed in a shoot-out with police after killing two people and wounding five others during a free-speech event at a synagogue in Denmark last week.

One demonstrator had a sign that read, “Yes to solidarity cohesion and inclusion, no to hatred and stigmatization.”

“There are many more peace mongers than warmongers,” Abdullah reportedly told the crowd in Oslo. “There’s still hope for humanity, for peace and love, across religious differences and backgrounds.”
