How This Guy Peels Coconuts Is Literally Insane — I Hope He Has A Good Dentist

If you’ve ever cracked open a coconut on your own, you know how terrible it can be…but this man may have learned the secret to making that process a little bit easier.

It doesn’t seem like a safe method, but it’s very efficient. Just make sure that you consult your dentist before trying this at home.

I want to know what this guy has going on with his teeth, because I’m pretty sure I’d need dentures after doing that.

What Happened When This Rugby Player Went On Live TV Is Painful And Embarrassing

The one thing that no one tells you about arm wrestling is that it can actually be pretty dangerous. Most of us get into good-natured contests where the real struggle only lasts for a few seconds before one person gives in.

However, when two strong people go head-to-head in a serious match, things can get intense in a hurry. In these situations, it’s surprisingly easy for one false move to leave one or both of the contenders with serious injuries…something these two arm wrestlers learned on live television.

Warning: this is not for those with weak constitutions!

That’s going to hurt in the morning. Luckily, the victim (professional rugby player Ben Ross) was able to make a full recovery.

As If You Needed Another Reason To Fear Climate Change…It Could Bring Back Anthrax

For those of us paying attention, it’s safe to say that climate change is the scariest thing that humanity will have to face in the coming decades.

While we’re already beginning to feel the impact of a warming planet, the full effect of the greenhouse gases we’ve pumped into the atmosphere might not be felt for years. While we can’t be 100 percent sure of all the ways in which climate change will destroy us, it will probably hit us from all sides. To demonstrate this point, I’d like to take you to the frozen tundra of Siberia.

Beautiful, right? Except that the warming climate has caused the region’s thick stores of permafrost to thaw. While this is bad news in and of itself, this phenomenon has brought back one seriously deadly strain of bacteria.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); });

One frozen reindeer carcass that thawed in the process is believed to have died during the region’s last major anthrax outbreak in 1968. When it warmed up, it released this bacteria into the air.

The outbreak has killed over 1,200 reindeer and has landed 40 people in the hospital.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’); });

Record warm temperatures didn’t just cause that carcass to release anthrax. They also allowed it to spread quickly.

Anthrax is typically spread through contact with the bacteria’s spores. Upon contact with the skin, they can create lesions. The spores can also be inhaled and ingested, which together can cause severe health complications. There is a vaccine for the disease, but for those already infected, early treatment with antibiotics is essential.

Luckily, this outbreak is receiving the full attention of the Russian government, so it probably won’t spread far. Still, it makes you wonder about all the other unexpected impacts of climate change we might have to contend with later on.

5 Strange Places That Are Blacked Out By Google Maps

It’s probably safe to say that Google Maps is one of the greatest technological innovations of the last 10 years. With just a few clicks, you can view any place on the face of the Earth.

Well, almost any place.

There are some areas of Google Maps that, for one reason or another, are concealed or obscured in some very obvious ways. Here are the five most suspicious-looking ones…

1. Junction Ranch, CA

Google Maps

Junction Ranch is in the middle of California’s Mohave Desert. There lies a mysterious airstrip…some believe it’s part of the China Lake proving grounds, which is an air force testing location for drones. While that’s suspicious in and of itself, even weirder is that only parts of the base are obscured from Google Maps. When you zoom in on the base’s location, there are parts of buildings intentionally scratched out. What’s going on down there?

2. Sandy Island

Google Maps

Sandy Island was discovered by Captain Cook during his explorations of and around Australia in the late 1700s. However, despite the island being seen on maps for the last 200 years, the area where Sandy Island is supposedly located is mysteriously blurred out on Google Maps. Something fishy is going on there.

3. Thule Air Base, Greenland

Google Maps

During the Cold War, the U.S. had B-52 bombers carrying nuclear weapons on a regular basis. This strategy was supposed to serve as a deterrent to the Soviets. However, accidents happen and in 1968 a plane carrying a nuclear payload crashed while taking off from Thule Air Base in Greenland. During the crash, the nuclear weapon was said to have released a significant amount of radiation into the surrounding environment. The area of the crash is still blurred out on Google.

4. Kangtega, Nepal

Google Maps

This mysterious area in the Himalayan Mountains is completely blacked out on Google Maps. While the potential reasons why it’s blocked range from a military base to Nazi UFOs, it’s unlikely that we’ll ever know the full story. That is, unless you want to hike up all 22,000 feet to find out.

5. Siberia, Russia

Google Maps

Russia’s vast northern forests are seemingly a hotbed of paranormal and generally unexplained activity. While most of us wouldn’t bother looking at a forest on Google Maps, the Russian government isn’t taking any chances. Deep in the Siberian wilderness is an area of land that from far away looks normal…however, when you look closer, it’s very obviously copied and pasted from another place. The geography just doesn’t synch up. So that begs the question, what’s going on here?

Check out a video discussing all five of these places.

Well, those are pretty darned mysterious. I wonder if Google is working in league with some evil forces in the world to cover these sites up, or if something else entirely is at play.

This Guy’s Boss Has A Heaven’s Gate Death Shroud In The Office…Normal

For anyone old enough to remember, the story of the Heaven’s Gate religious organization is more than a little disturbing. To refresh your memory, Heaven’s Gate is what many would consider to be a religious suicide cult. Its members believed that Earth was on the verge of being destroyed, and that humanity’s only chance for survival was to escape to a hidden alien ship that was conveniently lurking behind the moon.

However, escape in this case didn’t mean physical escape, but spiritual escape. In 1997, all 39 members of the organization committed suicide at their headquarters in San Diego, California.

In the months that followed the mass suicide, the media became obsessed with the group and its ideology. For some, the constant coverage translated into a lifelong fascination.

Pieces of Heaven’s Gate memorabilia, such as this authentic Heaven’s Gate uniform, are rare finds, so they always fetch high prices. This particular piece currently resides in Redditor fracasfoam‘s office.

Apparently, his boss likes to collect random (and extremely morbid) things.

As a connoisseur of creepiness myself, I’d be very interested to know just how much that uniform cost. I wonder if the fact that someone died in it brings the value up or down.

This Massive Shark Is Older Than America And She’s Still Alive And Kicking

Shark Week 2016 has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still plenty of ocean predators out there prowling the water for their next meal.

When we compare ourselves to sharks, sure they outmatch us in the physical strength and ferocity departments, but there’s no way they beat us in the age department, right? We humans live longer, more fruitful lives than sharks. Well, not if we’re talking about Greenland sharks.

The Greenland shark, also known as the gray shark, has some amazing genetics. A study of several deceased female Greenland sharks found that the largest one had lived for about 400 years and only died quite recently.

The study looked at the bodies of 28 Greenland sharks in total. Of those 28, eight were at least 200 years old when they died.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); });

The biggest shark researchers looked at was probably born around 1620. That would make her older than the United States!

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’); });

When Greenland sharks are born, they grow at the maddeningly slow pace of about one centimeter per year. Most only reach sexual maturity around the age of 150.

Who knows what keys to aging further study of these Greenland sharks might uncover…

Now that is amazing. I would love to see a whole special on the Greenland shark. I wonder how they would stack up against the more ferocious predators in the ocean…

What Happened When She Saw This UFO Might Be A Coincidence, But What If It’s Not?

UFOs are known for doing a few things when they’re spotted by humans. They sometimes cause blackouts and make cars start all by themselves, but they don’t usually break cameras.

But this might be a new tactic if the latest news out of Brazil is true. A woman there claims that the camera on her smartphone mysteriously broke after she accidentally snapped a startling picture of a UFO.

The woman said that she was watching a soccer game in the city of Marmelo when she got bored and started taking pictures of the scenery around her. That’s when she caught this UFO cruising through the sky.

According to the woman, she didn’t actually see the UFO at first. But after snapping the picture, her smartphone suddenly turned off and there was a bright spot on the screen where the UFO had been.

Those who have seen the photo believe that it might be the same UFO that was spotted in La Paz, Bolivia, on December 6, 2015.

You can see the UFO from that Bolivian sighting in the video below.

If UFOs are now going around and breaking people’s cameras, I think we might have a bigger problem on our hands than we originally thought.

What Happened To This Lake Is Dangerously Gross…And It Could Have Been Prevented

The tragic thing about environmental disasters is that they usually could have been prevented if only someone had thought ahead to the consequences of their actions. However, not many people do that when abusing the environment, which leads to stories like this…

The Palm Beach area of Florida is currently battling a horrifying blue-green algae outbreak in its normally pristine waters.

The outbreak, which might be the worst ever according to some experts, has already forced the closure of several beaches in the area.

Yes, that wave is green.

The timing couldn’t be worse, either. Right now is the height of tourist season in Florida.

While the algae is harmful to humans (it can cause skin rashes and trouble breathing), the substance is deadly to marine life.

The exact cause of the outbreak is being investigated, but officials already have some theories.

Water managers believe that a drainage pipe containing nutrient-rich wastewater from nearby farms might be at the center of the algae growth.

This wastewater drains into nearby lakes which feed rivers that ultimately lead out to the ocean.

Sadly, massive algae blooms like this are becoming more common in many parts of the United States due to decreasing water regulations and a lack of oversight from local officials.

That is utterly horrifying, and ahead of the July 4 weekend, too!

I feel bad for all the residents and native marine life — hopefully this is remedied ASAP.

If You Find This In Your Salad Mix, It’s Time To Find A New Grocery Store

Let’s be honest here. No on really likes eating salad. If health didn’t factor into it, most folks would choose bacon cheeseburgers over salads any day of the week. We all know, however, that salad is good for you. That just doesn’t make it taste any better.

If you find yourself running out of excuses for not buying salad fixings when you go to the store, allow me to present you with the following video. I won’t give it all away, but let’s just say that this family found an unexpected guest in their package of salad greens.

(via Reddit)

Just when I thought that salad couldn’t get any worse, Mother Nature had to throw this my way. Well, message received. I think I’ll just stick to bacon and french fries from now on, health be damned.

He Died While Diving, And His Camera Was Running The Entire Time

On the coast of the Red Sea lies one of the world’s most infamous scuba locations, and it’s known locally as the Blue Hole. The Blue Hole is an underwater sinkhole that goes down about 96 meters (or 314 feet). It’s a popular spot for free diving, but it’s also earned a reputation as one of the most dangerous locations in the world.

Despite regulation by authorities, about two divers per year are defeated by the sinkhole. The most famous death at the hole happened when diving instructor Yuri Lipski got lost back in 2000.

Lipski foolishly decided to dive to the bottom of the hole on his own.

He managed to reach a depth of 304 feet. However, at this depth, nitrogen narcosis began to impact his mental state, causing him to become disoriented.

Once he realized that he would not be able to escape, Lipski removed his oxygen mask and quickly perished.

When a diver was sent to retrieve Lipski’s body, they discovered that he had brought a video camera down with him. The camera attached to his helmet ended up recording the entire ordeal — including the moment of his death.

The video below is not for the faint of heart.

That poor guy. I can’t even imagine how horrible his final moments must have been. Let this be a reminder to bring a buddy with you when you’re doing anything risky, no matter how skilled you are.
