This Soldier Suffers From PTSD, But Found Therapy In Hiking With His Dog…And Cat

It’s always a gift to have a soldier return home from war, but nowadays, about 20% of veterans returning from the Middle East struggle with PTSD, which is a different kind of battle entirely.

When Stephen Simmons came back from Iraq in 2008, he had trouble adjusting to life at home. His body had become so accustomed to the endorphins that were triggered by his high-stress occupation. To combat this, Simmons created his own “adventure therapy” program. He, his dog Puppi, and his cat Burma hike Oregon’s mountains to help the vet get back on track.

I’ve never seen a cat so cool with hiking…and in the snow, no less! I guess if Simmons can use the hikes to get over his PTSD, Burma is willing to get a little wet in the process.

What They Found On A Hike Is Bizarre And Incredibly Morbid…This Isn’t Normal

When you go for a hike, it’s always a good idea to let at least one person know where you’re going and how long you plan to be there. Usually, nothing happens and you come back safe, but there’s always that chance of disaster. Or, in the case of Redditor indigoaway, a chance of a brutal sacrifice by a possible cult.

He and a friend were on a hike when they found something deep in the woods…

Indigoaway decided to go on a spontaneous hike with a friend. Not long after they began exploring, the two stumbled upon a rusted old barrel. From the outside, it just looked like trash, inside, though?

Well, it was filled with bones and other organic debris. Indigoaway’s friend had come across it a month earlier, too.

Even though what we’re probably looking at are animal bones, it’s still an extremely freaky thing to find in the middle of the woods.

var OX_ads = OX_ads || []; OX_ads.push({ slot_id: “537251602_570c5e666cc44”, auid: “537251602” });

Indigoaway said it looks like someone used a saw on the bones before throwing them into the barrel and burning them…oh, and the heads? Nowhere to be found.

While many Reddit commenters say this looks like the work of poachers trying to cover up their illegal hunting, indigoaway claims the woods are known for cult activity. Whichever explanation you believe, I don’t think it makes this discovery any less freaky.

Much of this sounds like the opening scene to a sequel of the Blair Witch Project. If I were them, I’d have hightailed it out of there.

What This Man Found 350 Feet Deep In A Canyon Will SHOCK You. How It Ends? Even More so.

On June 20, 2010, Zak Anderegg was hiking alone in an Arizona desert. While trying to find his way through a canyon, he managed to find so much more: a stuck puppy and a heartbreaking example of just how cruel humans can be. Take a look at how Anderegg handled finding a dog at the bottom of a 350’ canyon.

The entrance.

The exit.

The dog eating a much needed meal.

Unable to rescue the dog that afternoon, Anderegg left food and water and set out to fetch what he’d need to save the pup’s life.

He was back the very next morning, ready to bring the dog to safety.

The poor little guy had to spend some time at the animal hospital.

And even after that, it took him a while to get his strength back.

But it all led to him finding a new home and a new name: Riley.

Riley with his savior.

Riley living the life he was always meant to lead.

According to Anderegg, there’s no way Riley got down in that canyon on his own. As angering as it is to know that there are people out there who would leave a pet to die in a desert, it is comforting to know that there are also people like Zak Anderegg who would stop at nothing to help that discarded dog. Check out this video for more on Riley’s rescue.
