While I can’t remember the first time I saw my mother’s face, I imagine that it was a pretty beautiful moment. She is my light, the one who brought me into this world, and so much more.
Three-month-old Tilly has had a hard time seeing since she was born. So when her parents finally got her glasses, you can imagine just how happy she was to see her mother and father clearly for the first time.
My dad is always the last person left on my Christmas shopping list. He’s not particularly hard to shop for, but what could possibly be special enough for the man who’s given me everything?
There are always the standard presents, like ties and coffee mugs, but sometimes they just don’t cut it. Most dads have reached an age where they no longer care much about material items. What they really treasure is the precious time that they get to spend with their family.
The daughter in the video below hadn’t been able to spend Christmas with her dad in 25 years. One year when the big day rolled around, she did everything in her power to change that.
This is a gift he’ll never, ever forget.
If you have a far-away family member you’re missing this holiday season, be sure to share this video with them. Maybe they will wrap themselves up for a Christmas surprise!
Even as toddlers, we learn so much about the intricacies of this planet. Gravity sucks, food is good, and things can disappear and reappear through the magic incantation of “peek-a-boo!”
But when one little girl was told by her dad that snow comes from the sky…well, it was just too absurd for her to handle! “Daddy is funny!” she said, disparaging her father as the Catholic Church once did Galileo. Even Mom seemed to find the notion daffy, and she quickly joined in on the giggling.
Now that I’m thinking about it, she might have a point. You’re telling me that clouds create billions of dandruff-like flakes out of ice, and each flake is completely unique? That sounds like a dumb idea, even for Dad!
Dads can be their kids’ most important role models and superheroes.
The story of one dad, however, shows us that being his son’s superhero doesn’t require powers, but an enormous and inspiring heart. When Josh Marshall’s son, Gabe, was diagnosed with brain cancer, the family was devastated. Gabe had a successful surgery in June that left him with a large horseshoe-shaped scar, and he felt self-conscious when others saw him. That’s when Josh decided to do something amazing.
Josh found a tattoo artist and asked him to tattoo the shape of the scar on his head, too.
Moms get all the credit when it comes to watching the kids, but dads are great babysitters, too!
Trent McCain, owner of McCain Trucking & Harvesting, unfortunately doesn’t get to spend much time at home because he wakes up every day at the crack of dawn and puts in long, long hours. That’s why his precious nine-year-old daughter Joselyn asked him to watch her baby doll for the day. She never wants him to be lonely! He didn’t want to let his favorite little lady down, so he took the job very seriously.
He didn’t think he’d be a grandpa so soon, but he fell into the role quite nicely.
Irving Caplan became paralyzed and permanently wheelchair-bound after a bicycle accident in 2012. He refused to let this huge hurdle stop him from standing in honor of his daughter’s wedding two years later. Caplan wasn’t able to walk his daughter down the aisle; instead, he rose to the occasion of toasting to his daughter’s happiness with help from a Rex Bionics robotic suit.
The suit is controlled a joystick, 29 microprocessors, and 10 high-speed actuators.
Tanya told the Daily Mirror: “It is bright red and it covers almost half of the right side of her body. It stretches from her toes to her lower back. It hasn’t faded with time. In fact some days, it looks darker than others.”
Knowing their child might be treated differently, the Phillips decided to take action to help their daughter not feel alone.
3. An incident at a grocery store is what initially prompted them to do something.
“I was at checkout, when I saw an old couple whispering and staring at Honey-Rae’s leg. I was distraught. It was the first time I had taken her out without covering her up and it confirmed all my worries and fears,” Tanya told the Daily Mail. People are cruel without even realizing.”
4. The couple already had leg tattoos, but to show solidarity with their daughter they decided to get tattoos that matched her birthmark.
“Most people might think it’s very extreme, but to us, it was the natural thing to do to ensure our daughter never felt different or alone in the world,” Tanya told the Daily Mirror. “We wanted her to feel special, that her birthmark was something to feel proud of and not embarrassed by.”
5. Adam got his tattoo this past Christmas, with Tanya following suit last week. She said the process was tough, but worth it.
“It was incredibly painful, especially as I had a flower to cover some old star tattoos, but it was worth every second of the pain,” he told the Daily Mirror. “When the swelling went down, I showed Honey-Rae, and she gently touched it and smiled as she said ‘match,’ pointing to her own leg.”
6. The family stands by their descision, and believe they made the right choice for their daughter.
When reddit user Scevans09 posted a gallery of his son sleeping, I expected it to be boring. We’ve all seen kids sleeping. But I’m pretty sure you’ve never seen a kid fall asleep in this many awkward, crazy positions. His naps are basically an artform – and one I’m jealous of. I want to fall asleep literally anywhere.
Before you jump to conclusions that this kid is narcoleptic or has some serious other issue, his dad said the following:
“He had problems sleeping at night for awhile and then finally got his tonsils and adenoids out and has slept so much better since. I think that is why he would just crash all the time during the day.”
So, he’s all better but thankfully we have 34 brilliant photos of his epic nap-taking abilities. Share them with others below.
