This Shark Broke Into A Cage…With A Diver Still INSIDE

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — I’m terrified of the ocean.

Of course, sharks play a big role in that fear. While I understand that they aren’t as bad as people paint them to be, there’s no way I’d ever go swimming anywhere near them. I just can’t risk something like this happening.

During a recent shark cage diving trip in Guadalupe Island in Mexico, things went very, very wrong for diver Ming Chan. As he was watching great white sharks that were swimming just outside of his cage, one of them lunged at the bait tied there and broke in.

While the man who filmed all of this says that the shark was likely just confused and couldn’t swim backwards, that doesn’t make this any less horrifying.

Luckily, Chan is a very experienced dive instructor and reacted quickly by swimming to the outside of the cage’s bottom as this happened.

He is completely unharmed and says that this experience has definitely not scared him away from future diving trips. He is a much braver person than I will ever be.

The Terrifying Tarantula Hawk Is Just As Horrible As It Sounds

There isn’t much that creeps me out more than massive spiders do.

Sure, tarantulas make great pets for a lot of people, but no matter how hard I try to picture them the way their beloved owners do, I just can’t see past their giant fangs. However, if I had to choose between getting bitten by one or being stung by this insect, I’d immediately pick the spider bite.

Wasps are already horrible creatures, but tarantula hawks are a special kind of horrible. It is a spider wasp that actually hunts tarantulas.

Because of their ability to adapt to different climates, these freaky critters can be found in a variety of areas, including India, Southeast Asia, Africa, Australia, the U.S., and South America. They actually happen to be the state insect of New Mexico.

The wasps’ blue-black bodies (and huge stingers) serve as a warning to potential predators that they pack an incredibly painful sting.

When a female is ready to lay her egg, she hunts and stings a tarantula. After the spider is paralyzed by her venom, she drags it to her nest, where she lays an egg on its abdomen.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.defineSlot(‘/37886402/VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’, [300, 250], ‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF_580ad13a749bc’).addService(googletag.pubads()) googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_MB”, “VN_”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_SC”, “VN_ORGN”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_TS”, “TS_D”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_AT”, “VN_ORGN_PG_D_REV_1.0_ASYNC_DEFAULT”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_CC”, “VN_ORGN_D_UNK_118137_A”); googletag.pubads().setTargeting(“NOVA_PG”, “1”); googletag.enableServices(); googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF_580ad13a749bc’); });

As soon as the larva hatches, it digs its way into the tarantula’s body and eats its insides while the tarantula is still alive. What’s worse is that it purposely tries to keep the spider alive by staying away from its vital organs as long as possible.

Surprisingly, tarantula hawks are pretty docile when it comes to human interaction and don’t attack unless provoked. When they do sting, however, you have to suffer through excruciating pain and possible paralysis for up to five minutes. The only insect sting more painful is that of the bullet ant.

If you’re wondering exactly how nasty a tarantula hawk sting really feels, just watch our friend Coyote Peterson from Brave Wilderness writhing in agony.

Who’s extremely thankful that they’re not a tarantula right now? Me too.

This Massive Shark Is Older Than America And She’s Still Alive And Kicking

Shark Week 2016 has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still plenty of ocean predators out there prowling the water for their next meal.

When we compare ourselves to sharks, sure they outmatch us in the physical strength and ferocity departments, but there’s no way they beat us in the age department, right? We humans live longer, more fruitful lives than sharks. Well, not if we’re talking about Greenland sharks.

The Greenland shark, also known as the gray shark, has some amazing genetics. A study of several deceased female Greenland sharks found that the largest one had lived for about 400 years and only died quite recently.

//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

The study looked at the bodies of 28 Greenland sharks in total. Of those 28, eight were at least 200 years old when they died.

The biggest shark researchers looked at was probably born around 1620. That would make her older than the United States!

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’); });

When Greenland sharks are born, they grow at the maddeningly slow pace of about one centimeter per year. Most only reach sexual maturity around the age of 150.

Who knows what keys to aging further study of these Greenland sharks might uncover…

Now that is amazing. I would love to see a whole special on the Greenland shark. I wonder how they would stack up against the more ferocious predators in the ocean…

What Happened When She Saw This UFO Might Be A Coincidence, But What If It’s Not?

UFOs are known for doing a few things when they’re spotted by humans. They sometimes cause blackouts and make cars start all by themselves, but they don’t usually break cameras.

But this might be a new tactic if the latest news out of Brazil is true. A woman there claims that the camera on her smartphone mysteriously broke after she accidentally snapped a startling picture of a UFO.

The woman said that she was watching a soccer game in the city of Marmelo when she got bored and started taking pictures of the scenery around her. That’s when she caught this UFO cruising through the sky.

According to the woman, she didn’t actually see the UFO at first. But after snapping the picture, her smartphone suddenly turned off and there was a bright spot on the screen where the UFO had been.

Those who have seen the photo believe that it might be the same UFO that was spotted in La Paz, Bolivia, on December 6, 2015.

You can see the UFO from that Bolivian sighting in the video below.

If UFOs are now going around and breaking people’s cameras, I think we might have a bigger problem on our hands than we originally thought.

You Might Say This Guy Had Trouble Letting Go…Some Called Him A Romantic

Losing a loved one is never easy and the grieving process can take years if it ever really ends. Grief can take many forms including ways that are strange and don’t make much sense to outside observers. While a little bit of understanding in these situations can go a long way, when it comes to the grieving process of Carl Tanzler following the death of his beloved in 1931…well, that’s another story.

Tanzler, pictured below, was born in Germany in 1877. He and his family (wife and two daughters) immigrated to the U.S. in 1926 before settling in Zephyrhills, Florida. With everyone settled, Tanzler left his family and took a job as a radiologic technologist at the U.S. Marine Hospital in Key West. That’s where the creepy side of the story begins…

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); });

While working at the hospital, Tanzler met Maria Elena “Helen” Milagro de Hoyos, a local woman whose family was from Cuba. From first sight, Tanzler said he fell madly in love with her.

At the hospital, Hoyos was diagnosed with tuberculosis, which was almost always fatal at the time. Despite Tanzler using all of his limited medical knowledge to save her, Hoyos died of the disease in 1931.

After her death, Tanzler paid for all of her funeral costs and even commissioned the building of a large, aboveground tomb for her. For the next several years, Tanzler paid frequent visits to Hoyos’ grave. That is, until one night in April 1933, when he broke into her tomb and stole her body.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’); });

At home with the body, Tanzler attached Hoyos’ bones back together using coat hangers and wires. Next, he fitted the “body” with a new set of glass eyes. As Hoyos’ remains continued to decay, Tanzler replaced her skin with cloth and plaster. Eventually, he replaced her hair with a wig. He also stuffed the chest cavity with rags to help keep its original form. The body never left Tanzler’s bed.

Tanzler kept Hoyos’ body until rumors of his activities finally reached the dead woman’s family in 1940 and they investigated. When police searched his home, they found the reassembled body and Tanzler was arrested.

Strangely enough, Tanzler never actually served any jail time for his grave robbing. His case went to trial in 1940, but the judge ruled that the statute of limitations had run out. When Tanzler died in 1952, his body was found in the arms of a life-sized effigy he had created of Hoyos.

The creepiest part of this whole story is that there is no evidence that Hoyos, when she was alive, ever reciprocated any of Tanzler’s feelings for her.

There’s A Crazy Place On The Internet Where You Can Buy Serial Killers’ Belongings

Although it is incredibly helpful for providing us with information, there are some seriously dark corners of the internet.

By now, I’m sure you’ve heard of the “deep web,” but you don’t even have to venture there to come across some insanely creepy websites. For example, if you’re obsessed with murderers for whatever reason, there’s a site where you can actually buy their stuff.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); });

On Murder Auction, you can search for your favorite serial killers and find which of their belongings are up for grabs. Here’s a small sampling of what the site has to offer.

1. Richard Ramirez, also known as the “Night Stalker,” murdered 13 people during his spree in the ’80s. He sent this disturbing drawing to Jason Moss. The latter was a writer who corresponded with many serial killers and wrote a memoir about his explorations into their minds.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); });

2. These envelopes contained letters also sent to Jason Moss by serial killer John Wayne Gacy a few months before he was executed in 1994. He was known as the “Killer Clown” and murdered at least 33 young boys and men in the ’70s.

3. This mask was cast from a damaged mold of Adolf Hilter’s face. The original cast was believed to have been lost forever after Russian troops looted his home in 1945, but it was later found and restored in the ’80s.

4. This is a letter that Henry Lee Lucas sent to his girlfriend in 1992. He is known as “The Confession Killer,” and he admitted to murdering hundreds of people.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI1_BTF’); });

5. Here’s an illustration that was drawn and signed by Christine Falling, who suffocated at least five children she babysat when she was 17 years old. She claims that the voices in her head told her to kill them.

6. Here is another one of the drawings that Richard Ramirez sent to Jason Moss. It reads, “Breaking up is hard enough, I got pieces of April over here, over there.”

7. This is a Polaroid taken of Nevada serial killer Wayne Horton, who was obsessed with Charles Manson. He murdered four people, including his 19-year-old cellmate in jail.

8. This Mother’s Day card was sent by Dorothea Puente, the “Death House Landlady,” who stole Social Security checks from the elderly and disabled residents of the boarding house she ran. She killed those who protested her actions and buried them in her yard.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCI2_BTF’); });

9. Twisted cannibal Joe Metheny drew this and added a bloody thumbprint. He lured prostitutes into his home and killed them from the ’70s to the ’90s. He cut up their bodies and sold their flesh to unwitting customers at his beef stand.

10. This is a tracing of the hand of Jeremy Jones, a rapist who claims to have killed many people, including a whole family in Oklahoma. His confessions were so wild, though, that police were never able to sort the truth from all of his heinous fiction. He was convicted of killing one woman in 2004, but there’s no telling how many victims he actually left in his wake.

I have to admit that this is kind of fascinating, but I think I’ve had enough of the internet for now. I can only take one creepy browsing session a day, but if you want to check out more, click here.

She Sleeps With 3 Of Her 7 Children — Is Attachment Parenting Taking It Too Far?

Do you remember crawling into bed with your parents when you were young? If so, you probably also recall them kicking you out, saying things like “you’re too big now” or “you have your own bed.”

Who can blame them? Now that I’m an adult, I look forward to getting into bed every night. It’s soft, comfortable, serene, and most of all, mine. Having to share it with a couple of kids would be enough to send me right to the couch.

These days, however, attachment parenting is more popular than ever.

iStock

When reading over the principles, it’s easy to see why parents are attracted to this method, which is based on empathy, love, respect, and compassion. Building an early bond with an infant or toddler has been shown to lead to better mental and emotional health – and a big part of that is co-sleeping.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); });

At best, co-sleeping is really adorable.

At worst, it results in a swift kick to Mom’s face in the middle of the night.

But how far is too far? This mom of seven by the name of Anni Jones practices what she calls “gentle attachment parenting.” For her, that includes sleeping with her three youngest children — and they’re not exactly babies!

What do you think? Is this mom taking it too far? How old is too old to sleep with your children? Let us know! As for me, I’ll be sprawled out like a starfish in my child-free bed.

An Intruder Just Broke Into Their House And Watched Them Sleep For Over 10 Minutes

Are you paranoid about making sure that your windows and doors are securely locked at all times to prevent unwelcome strangers? Well, if you’re not already, you will be after you watch this video. It’s from a surveillance camera inside the Chicago home of Jordan Buranskas and her boyfriend, Jack Mackercher.

The footage shows a creepy man in a white hoodie standing at the top of the stairs, watching the couple while they slept on the couch. To say it’s unsettling would be an understatement.

He’s the ultimate creep.

(via Elite Daily)

The scariest part is that they only noticed this guy while reviewing the footage trying to figure out where Jordan’s purse went (which he did, in fact, steal). If he hadn’t taken anything, they would never have known that he was there.

This Halloween Decoration Was Pulled From Stores Because It Goes Way Too Far

Putting up scary decorations is an awesome way to set the mood for Halloween.

When I went trick-or-treating as a kid, I loved how much my neighborhood was committed to creating a spooky atmosphere. But while my neighbors used headstones and skeletons in their yards, one company thinks that it’s a good idea to make people believe they have possible intruders outside of their homes.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBP_ATF’); });

The last thing you want to see at night is a sinister stranger pressing their hands up to your window and looking inside. That’s why Scary Peepers were pulled from Home Depot stores in Canada.

Scary Peepers are Halloween props that can be attached to windows with suction cups, creating the illusion of a creepy voyeur checking you out.

googletag.cmd.push(function() { googletag.display(‘VN_PG_DCBM_BTF’); });

Because they look so realistic in the dark, concerned parents in Canada have complained that it’s not funny to scare people into thinking that they’re about to become victims of a serious crime.

Though Home Depot agreed and pulled all of the offending products from its Canada stores and website, you can actually still buy them on its U.S. site. But before you start planning on freaking out everyone you know, just imagine how terrifying it would be to see this when you’re home alone at night.

If you’re still sold on these Halloween props, you can find the above model on the Scary Peeper website, alongside even creepier versions — some of which actually tap the window.

(via Daily Dot)

I’m pretty sure that I’d have a heart attack if my friends or family pulled this on me — that’s why I always keep my blinds closed at night. Would you buy these decorations?

They Were Out On A Romantic Swim When This Terror Decided To Join The Party

As a little girl, I was irrationally afraid of sharks or crocodiles showing up in swimming pools and biting my feet off.

Because of my extreme fear, let’s just say I’ve been more than a little paranoid when it comes to any body of water. Unfortunately, the following footage really doesn’t do much to help me get past this phobia.

When a couple was having a private swim in Kariba, Zimbabwe, one nasty visitor headed straight into the pool and proceeded to attack them.

I’d probably never get in a pool again if I were her.

It’s a good thing that swimming pools have already been ruined for me, because that’s just terrifying. On a lighter note, something tells me that guy is going to be in the doghouse for quite a while.
