How This Guy Peels Coconuts Is Literally Insane — I Hope He Has A Good Dentist

If you’ve ever cracked open a coconut on your own, you know how terrible it can be…but this man may have learned the secret to making that process a little bit easier.

It doesn’t seem like a safe method, but it’s very efficient. Just make sure that you consult your dentist before trying this at home.

I want to know what this guy has going on with his teeth, because I’m pretty sure I’d need dentures after doing that.

5 Strange Places That Are Blacked Out By Google Maps

It’s probably safe to say that Google Maps is one of the greatest technological innovations of the last 10 years. With just a few clicks, you can view any place on the face of the Earth.

Well, almost any place.

There are some areas of Google Maps that, for one reason or another, are concealed or obscured in some very obvious ways. Here are the five most suspicious-looking ones…

1. Junction Ranch, CA

Google Maps

Junction Ranch is in the middle of California’s Mohave Desert. There lies a mysterious airstrip…some believe it’s part of the China Lake proving grounds, which is an air force testing location for drones. While that’s suspicious in and of itself, even weirder is that only parts of the base are obscured from Google Maps. When you zoom in on the base’s location, there are parts of buildings intentionally scratched out. What’s going on down there?

2. Sandy Island

Google Maps

Sandy Island was discovered by Captain Cook during his explorations of and around Australia in the late 1700s. However, despite the island being seen on maps for the last 200 years, the area where Sandy Island is supposedly located is mysteriously blurred out on Google Maps. Something fishy is going on there.

3. Thule Air Base, Greenland

Google Maps

During the Cold War, the U.S. had B-52 bombers carrying nuclear weapons on a regular basis. This strategy was supposed to serve as a deterrent to the Soviets. However, accidents happen and in 1968 a plane carrying a nuclear payload crashed while taking off from Thule Air Base in Greenland. During the crash, the nuclear weapon was said to have released a significant amount of radiation into the surrounding environment. The area of the crash is still blurred out on Google.

4. Kangtega, Nepal

Google Maps

This mysterious area in the Himalayan Mountains is completely blacked out on Google Maps. While the potential reasons why it’s blocked range from a military base to Nazi UFOs, it’s unlikely that we’ll ever know the full story. That is, unless you want to hike up all 22,000 feet to find out.

5. Siberia, Russia

Google Maps

Russia’s vast northern forests are seemingly a hotbed of paranormal and generally unexplained activity. While most of us wouldn’t bother looking at a forest on Google Maps, the Russian government isn’t taking any chances. Deep in the Siberian wilderness is an area of land that from far away looks normal…however, when you look closer, it’s very obviously copied and pasted from another place. The geography just doesn’t synch up. So that begs the question, what’s going on here?

Check out a video discussing all five of these places.

Well, those are pretty darned mysterious. I wonder if Google is working in league with some evil forces in the world to cover these sites up, or if something else entirely is at play.

This Grandma Learned to Never Put Her Hand On A Shark Tank… Because DUH.

Sharks have always been one of my biggest fears. Needless to say, the video below has turned me into a pathetic and shivering mound of sweat. I keep checking to make sure a shark isn’t going to eat me. Sure, I’m on land… but that’s not the point, OK? Watch as this granny learns why you should never put your hand on the glass of a shark tank.

The video was filmed at the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C. Source: Logan Riley Share this ‘shark attack’ video with your friends below to give them a little scare.

This Massive Shark Is Older Than America And She’s Still Alive And Kicking

Shark Week 2016 has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still plenty of ocean predators out there prowling the water for their next meal.

When we compare ourselves to sharks, sure they outmatch us in the physical strength and ferocity departments, but there’s no way they beat us in the age department, right? We humans live longer, more fruitful lives than sharks. Well, not if we’re talking about Greenland sharks.

The Greenland shark, also known as the gray shark, has some amazing genetics. A study of several deceased female Greenland sharks found that the largest one had lived for about 400 years and only died quite recently.

The study looked at the bodies of 28 Greenland sharks in total. Of those 28, eight were at least 200 years old when they died.

The biggest shark researchers looked at was probably born around 1620. That would make her older than the United States!

When Greenland sharks are born, they grow at the maddeningly slow pace of about one centimeter per year. Most only reach sexual maturity around the age of 150.

Who knows what keys to aging further study of these Greenland sharks might uncover…

Now that is amazing. I would love to see a whole special on the Greenland shark. I wonder how they would stack up against the more ferocious predators in the ocean…

You Haven’t Seen Disturbing Until You See What This Photographer Witnessed. It’s Haunting Beyond Words.

Between 1999 and 2002, after the Yugoslav Wars, photographer George Georgiou was living and working in Kosovo and Serbia, photographing mainly the aftermath of the NATO conflict with Serbia. While there he visited three psychiatric institutions, taking these haunting photographs of the patients and their shocking living conditions. George had spent four years teaching a photography class to people with psychiatric disorders in London prior, so psychiatric institutions and patients were not alien to him. What he found in Kosovo and Serbia was a far cry form the contemporary practice in London.

George Georgiou had this to say about his experience there:

When I first visited the institutions they were hidden from the gaze of the general public and came as a shock to Serbs when they were exposed. Money, during the years of the Milosevic regime had drained away, leaving filthy conditions, contagious diseases, lack of medical care and rehabilitation and a failure to provide oversight due to an unmotivated low paid staff struggling with their own economic difficulties. The worst aspect was the total lack of care and stimulation and the high number of people who should never have been in these places. People with physical disabilities, (the boy with no legs was a victim of a car accident and orphaned), downs syndrome, a high proportion of Roma or children whose misfortune was to have been born in the institutions. By living in this environment of deprivation, with little stimulation or compassion they start to display repetitive rocking behaviour and self-injury. By 2002, on my final visits, money had been raised in a public campaign of awareness in Serbia and with the help of a number of NGO’s conditions had improved. For me, after the initial shock at the conditions and total lack of care, it became clear that the patients from all ethnic backgrounds were able to display more community, affection and care with each other, than the sad situation that their “sane” countrymen were displaying to each other on the outside.

Is This The Most Bizarre Historical Coincidence Of All Time?

December 5 might just go down as one of history’s most coincidental days ever.

On that date in 1664, a ship sank in the Menai Strait, located off the coast of North Wales. 80 passengers died — there was only one survivor, a man named Hugh Williams.

That same day in 1785, another shipwreck occurred in the same strait. Once again, all passengers died except for a man by the name of Hugh Williams.

By now it should come as no surprise that yet again in 1820, a third ship lost its battle against the sea, leaving only one survivor. His name? Hugh Williams.

Is all of this the result of pure coincidence, or is something else to blame?

While there appears to be a clear connection between the Menai Strait and men named Hugh Williams, the coincidence might not be as sensational as you think.

The Menai Strait is known for its rough waters year-round, but during the winter months, especially in early December, they can be unbelievably uneasy, and the weather is quite gloomy and rainy. Given this, and the fact that the strait is heavily trafficked, it should come as no surprise that it has seen its fair share of shipwrecks. It is believed that during the 200-year span between the three notable shipwrecks, there were upwards of 300 reported wrecks in the strait.

Remind Me To Never Ever Put This One Object In A Washer. OMG, This Is Insane!

A group of brave YouTube pioneers decided to do an experiment that’d test the endurance of a favorite household appliance: the washing machine. They wanted to know just how far one of these puppies would go if you put it under some serious stress. The answer? Not that far. They put a small piece of metal, like what you’d find in a normal combustion engine, into the machine. Then, they started a cycle.

At first, it seemed like the machine could handle it.

But then, the wheels really came off of the whole operation when the machine tried to kick into a normal cycle. Check out the full carnage in the video:

It’s just …

So… violent.

(H/T BuzzFeed) The next time you do a load of laundry, make sure to check your pants and bed sheets for any wrenches, engine parts or random hunks of metal. We all know how common it is to be carrying around a smelted brick of iron ore. If you thought that losing some change in the washing machine was loud and annoying, having this happen would break you (and the washing machine).

This Puppy Was About To Be Eaten. Yes, Eaten. But Check Out What Happened.

People throughout the world see dogs as “man’s best friend.” They are animals with deep feelings and they can be one of the most loyal and loving companions you could ever have. For most people, resisting a dog’s charm is simply impossible. This fluffy ball of love is named Scout. He originally lived in China in the town of Yulin. However, now he lives in Washington D.C. with an American family. That’s because his original owner was trying to slaughter and eat him.

All he wanted was love…

But he was inches away from being slaughtered for FOOD.

There is a town in China called Yulin that celebrates a “dog meat festival” every year. Annually, restaurant owners and street vendors sell dog and cat meat to both locals and tourists. This tradition goes back generations as a celebration of the summer solstice. It’s possible there was a point in history where this made sense or wasn’t an atrocity, but now animal rights activists are fighting against the slaughter of innocent animals in the name of this festival. According to CNN, many locals are still accustomed to eating dog meat: Ask a local when the tradition of eating dog meat began and you’ll likely be met with a dumbfounded expression — it is akin to asking someone when people started eating beef. For many in the city, eating dog meat is a hard habit to break, despite changing attitudes about the treatment of animals in China.

We decided to censor this image of dog meat for sale in a shop in Yulin City recently. If you want to see the uncensored version, it’s linked below.

Uncensored version (warning: you probably won’t like it). Thankfully, groups are attempting to change how people view dogs across China. Ending the consumption and sale of dog meat is an important… soon maybe this festival will come to an end. Because of the controversy, dog meat prices are rising and the festival is being protests. In the future, pups like Scout will be safe. For now, I’m glad someone was able to take that lovable dog away from the street vendor that was trying to kill him. Visit the International Humane Society’s blog to learn about this terrible tradition. Share this with others by clicking below. This Rare Deep Sea Jellyfish Is All Of Your Underwater Nightmares Rolled Into One

If there is one species that Earth’s oceans are abundant with, it’s jellyfish. Thanks to climate change and the general warming of the planet, our oceans are becoming a much more hospitable place for all sorts of jellyfish. However, there will always be those more mysterious and elusive sub-species.

Consider the stygiomedusa gigantea. It is a species of giant jellyfish that is among the rarest in the world. Over the past 110 years, there have only been 115 sightings. According to those who have studied it, stygiomedusa gigantea is one of the largest invertebrate predators in the world.

While its sightings have been rare, luckily a few of the recent ones have been by unmanned ROV vehicles, which allow us to get up close with these terrifying, majestic creatures.

Well, this is going to give me nightmares for a year.
