JournoList founder Ezra Klein to leave Washington Post?

According to the New York Times, JournoList founder and Wonkblog editor Ezra Klein is preparing to leave the Washington Post to start his own site. The Times reports that Klein “put forward a proposal with detailed revenue projections to build a new website dedicated to explanatory journalism on a wide range of topics beyond political policy,” but the Post’s publisher as well as its owner (Amazon founder Jeff Bezos) declined to fund it.

‘Hating Breitbart’ makers release never-before-seen clip [video]

On the second anniversary of Andrew Breitbart’s death, the makers of the film “Hating Breitbart” have released previously unseen footage.

In this clip, Breitbart explains the lengths he goes to in order to protect his sources, such as Hannah Giles, the young “prostitute” who helped to take down ACORN in a series of undercover videos.

‘FTW!’ Blanchett scores at SAGs with McConaughey mock, shade-throwing

Yes, it was.

Actress Cate Blanchett first hit the red carpet at the SAG Awards in style.

And gave a winning and witty response on the red carpet.

Blanchett then took home the award for Best Actress for her role in “Blue Jasmine.”

Her acceptance speech scored. First, she threw a little shade at Matthew McConaughey. As Twitchy reported, his acceptance speech Saturday night baffled and sparked “what is he smoking?” snickers.

Yep, hilarious.

But Blanchett wasn’t done shade-throwing!

Triple win for Ms. Blanchett.

Jake Tapper learns that Jill Abramson story gets ‘more media-navel-gazy’

As Twitchy reported, the media’s self-absorption rate was off the charts this morning as recently fired New York Times executive editor Jill Abramson delivered the commencement address at Wake Forest. Not among the 1,000+ media reporters watching the speech was “This American Life” host Ira Glass, who surprised New York magazine by knowing nothing about it.

“Am I, like, the only person in New York who hasn’t heard this?” Glass asked. Nor was he aware that Abramson was the Times’ first female editor. “Honestly, like, I’m a superfan of the New York Times, but I know nothing about how they put it together and I really don’t care.”

Who in the media will be the first to get to the bottom of this mystery:

‘Shocking!’ Jay Carney takes his ‘revolving door’ clown show to CNN

At the end of May, President Obama said goodbye to outgoing Press Secretary Jay Carney. There was subsequent speculation about Jay Carney’s next job, but was there ever any doubt that he’d end up back in the mainstream media?

Here’s the kind of totally believable analysis CNN viewers can look forward to:

A preview of Carney’s CNN coverage of President Obama’s address about ISIS:

Without a doubt!

Biden: If Congress doesn’t ‘see the Lord’ on immigration, they’ll ‘see lightning’

You heard it from Uncle Joe, folks: If Congress doesn’t give Obama what he wants, he’s gonna whip out his “big stick.”

Biden at Hispanic Heritage month event: If Congress doesn’t do imm., “the president’s going to do it, and he’s going to do an awful lot”

Biden, keeping the bar high for Obama's immig exec actions: “the president’s going to do it, and he’s going to do an awful lot."

— Edward-Isaac Dovere (@IsaacDovere) September 22, 2014

On immigration reform, VP Biden says if Congress didnt act by year's end, Pres Obama will act "and he’s going to do an awful lot”.

— Mark Knoller (@markknoller) September 22, 2014

Got that? He’s gonna do it. And not just a little bit, but “an awful lot.” Not right away, though:

After election of course MT @elisefoley: Biden: If Congress doesnt do imm. “the president’s going to do it, & he’s going to do an awful lot”

— Ashe Schow (@AsheSchow) September 22, 2014

President Obama is generously giving Congress another month or so to “see the Lord”:

Biden: “When this election [is] over…they just may see the Lord. It is possible. But if they don’t they will see some lightning.”

— Elise Foley (@elisefoley) September 22, 2014

And Lord Obama will be the one dishing it out:

Addressing his Hispanic Heritage event, Biden said if Congress fails to act on immigration after the election, "we will act for them."

Got that?

‘The hell you say?’ NBC reportedly wanted Jon Stewart to host MTP

According to New York Magazine, that pretty much sums it up:

Unreal. RT @sahilkapur: "NBC was prepared to offer Stewart virtually ‘anything' to bring him over.” http://t.co/KQTSLP7wNx

— Noah Rothman (@NoahCRothman) October 8, 2014

From the Daily Intelligencer:

Before choosing Todd, NBC News president Deborah Turness held negotiations with Jon Stewart about hosting Meet the Press, according to three senior television sources with knowledge of the talks. One source explained that NBC was prepared to offer Stewart virtually “anything” to bring him over. “They were ready to back the Brinks truck up,” the source said. A spokesperson for NBC declined to comment. James Dixon, Stewart’s agent, did not respond to multiple requests for comment.

Dang. That’s a juicy little news nugget, isn’t it?

.@TheDailyShow Can't wait for your segment tearing apart NBC fro trying to hire a comedian to host Meet the Press https://t.co/CHQzub6I4g

— Anthony Eboly (@AnthonyBialy) October 8, 2014

OMG. NBC wanted Jon Stewart to host Meet The Press. Oh journalism, how far have you fallen? That’s just pathetic.

— Heather (@hboulware) October 8, 2014

NBC is a reputable news organization. Tough and completely not biased. That's why they wanted Jon Stewart to host Meet the Press. #wait

— RB (@RBPundit) October 8, 2014

Eh, it’s NBC.

Jon Stewart deadpans to camera at thought of NBC hiring him to host Meet the Press (suggested segment title: Bleat the Press)

— Anthony Eboly (@AnthonyBialy) October 8, 2014

Jon Stewart hosting Meet the Press would mean it's just as unintentionally funny.

— Anthony Eboly (@AnthonyBialy) October 8, 2014

So nothing would really change, then.

Jon Stewart hosting a Sunday morning political show is just as unbelievable as having George Stephanopoulos host one. Oh wait…

— Andrew Johnson (@AndrewE_Johnson) October 8, 2014

If people are dumb enough to get their news from Jon Stewart, does it really matter which channel they tune into to do it?

— A.J. Winkelspecht (@ajwink) October 8, 2014

Good point.

Sure, Stewart is a clown. Maybe MTP would do better with a clown. Didja think of that?

— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) October 8, 2014

They sure as heck couldn’t do much worse.

Kudos to NBC for thinking outside the box w/ the Jon Stewart idea. The old Sunday morning show model is deader than dead.

— jon gabriel (@exjon) October 8, 2014

Jon Stewart is no more a liberal hack than David Gregory. And Stewart is more respectable.

— jon gabriel (@exjon) October 8, 2014

Fair enough!

Ellen Barkin blasts ‘warmongering Cheneys’ for position on climate change

For actress Ellen Barkin, the science is settled: The Cheneys are bad, horrible, awful, terrible people for viewing President Obama’s policies as bad for America while also not falling in line on “climate change.”

Uh huh. And nobody has joined the “save the planet” movement for the money, right Ms. Barkin?

‘Liberal heads are going to explode’: Dick and Liz Cheney launch new non-profit

Ruh-roh … are unions partly to blame for ‘unbearable whiteness of liberal media’?

Writer Gabriel Arana’s new piece for the left-wing American Prospect is raising some eyebrows this morning, merely by acknowledging what conservatives have known for a long time: The liberal media is dominated by progressives of pallor.

You don’t say!

It’s not just the Prospect. Journalism upstarts like Vox Media and FiveThirtyEighthave come under fire recently for lack of diversity in their hires, but that’s largely because they are drawing from the milky-white pool of “existing talent.” In the corner of the publishing industry that caters to college-educated wonks—a slightly fuzzy designation, but I’ve included most of the publications my colleagues and I read on a daily basis—racial and ethnic diversity is abysmal.

Arana discusses several possible contributing factors to the liberal media’s pale pool of talent, including this very interesting one:

‘Very true’: What does CNN’s inaction on Carol Costello say about their ‘standards’?

The fact that that tweet’s still up says a lot about Carol Costello.

And the fact that Costello has essentially skated on her sickening mockery of Bristol Palin’s possible assault says a lot about CNN:
