Franklin & Bashed: Rob Lowe not going to take it anymore

Viewers of the TNT show “Franklin & Bash” know there are running mentions of Rob Lowe, who is supposedly a neighbor whose name (and couch) make an occasional appearances.

One of the stars of the show is ready for whatever Lowe has up his sleeve:

It’s on!

Gotye gotcha: Singer isn’t dead

Relax, Gotye fans. Your guy is alive and well. He’s merely the latest subject of an online death hoax. (Dear CNN: You might want to put a little more effort into vetting the “news” posts on your iReport site. Sincerely, Accuracy.)

The “Somebody That I Used to Know” singer – and his management, for good measure – personally disputed the report.

We're happy to report Wally is alive and well. Tell your friends 🙂

— GotyeHQ (@GotyeHQ) July 1, 2012

(Wally is Gotye’s real name.)

It took about half a second for the inevitable joke to appear:

Gotye is dead. Now he's just somebody that we used to know

— Aaron Saarinen (@aieos) July 1, 2012

And only a bit longer for the requisite “yeah, but Justin Bieber sucks!” tweet:

Gotye is dead? Why don't Twitter kill Justin Bieber first?

— epal misai (@iAppleMustache) July 1, 2012

At least the hoax was a change from the usual snowboarding death story we’ve come to know and adore. It’s all getting to be old hat for Twitter veterans.

If you believe Gotye is dead. You must be new here. (here in twitter everyone dies)

— David (@DavidKrap) July 1, 2012

But look here! Perhaps the person who posted the phony iReport story got inspiration from a high source?

Tough but fair. RT @BarackObama: Because Gotye is so terrible, I’m outlawing male-female duets for a period of three years.

— rob delaney (@robdelaney) June 27, 2012

Actually, no. First, Rob Delaney’s a comedian (he also posts fake tweets that supposedly come from Mitt Romney’s account). Second, a scan of the Obama 2012 feed revealed no such tweet. To paraphrase the still-breathing Gotye, surely the president’s people wouldn’t have to stoop so low. On this topic, anyway.

As one tweeter knows, this episode merely confirms Gotye’s status as a major celeb.

@GotyeHQ You're not big until a "death" rumour arises!

Howie Mandel jealous of Howard Stern?

The NY Post reports that America’s Got Talent judge Howie Mandel is irked by all the attention that Howard Stern is getting:

“Howie is the new Randy Jackson,” one source close to the show said — comparing the roles on “AGT” to the original “American Idol” lineup — whereas Stern is Simon Cowell.

A fan who went to the Austin taping to see Stern wrote online, “The Howard fans were a blessing and a curse for the taping . . . There were so many people carrying signs with Howard’s catchphrases. When Howard came in, I can’t even tell you how long the cheering and chanting went on. ‘Howard! Howard!’ They couldn’t get the crowd to stop.”

She added, “It was like The Beatles when he got out of the car….”

Mandel said through a rep: “I love Howard, and his fans are phenomenal. The only real negative about working with him is that my wife now yells ‘baba booey’ in bed during sex.”

Twitter reaction:

@PageSix #HowieMandel wastes too much time washing his hands n could never get down n dirty like the #KingOfAllMedia. #HowardStern

Danny DeVito reveals his three-word solution to gun violence

"….Violence begets violence…"
How can we expect anything else…
Aim to Disarm

— Danny DeVito (@DannyDeVito) July 09, 2013

“Aim to Disarm.” It’s so simple! If we all relinquish our right to self-defense, we’ll never have any need to defend ourselves!

Nice try, Danny. But Second Amendment supporters know that reality doesn’t work that way:

‘Spring break in Siberia is off’: Pols react to being #SanctionedByPutin

Not so fast, there. The #SanctionedByPutin hashtag is taking off after all, and the Wall Street Journal has even declared those who have been sanctioned members of “the hottest club in D.C.” Who in Washington is cool enough to be a member of this exclusive club?

Also sanctioned were National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes, Deputy National Security Adviser Caroline Atkinson, and White House aide Daniel Pfeiffer. If you’re not on that list, you weren’t sanctioned. Sorry.

Harry Reid not satisfied with Mitt Romney’s ‘manipulated’ tax returns

Well, Harry Reid certainly isn’t happy today — is he ever, and how would we know? — but he’s not angry with his super-secret source who had him convinced Mitt Romney hadn’t paid taxes for the last 10 years. His anger is still reserved for Romney, who has not only sullied the Mormon religion, but has somehow manipulated the tax return he released today.

Nine words in "manipulated." Sen. Majority Leader Reid's statement on Romney taxes

— Major Garrett (@MajorCBS) September 21, 2012

No longer able to sell the narrative that Romney hasn’t paid taxes for a decade (a suggestion he repeated just two days ago on the Senate floor), Reid has moved on to float another conspiracy. In a statement today, Reid says the new information only “raises the question: what else in those returns has Romney manipulated?”

Reid avoids prior claims, blasts Romney's 'accounting wizards' –

— CNN Political Ticker (@PoliticalTicker) September 21, 2012

Reid’s statement reads, in part:

The information released today reveals that Mitt Romney manipulated one of the only two years of tax returns he’s seen fit to show the American people – and then only to ‘conform’ with his public statements. That raises the question: what else in those returns has Romney manipulated? We already know Romney has money in tax havens in Switzerland, Bermuda and the Cayman Islands. What we don’t know is why he refuses to be straight with the American people about the choices he’s made in his financial life. When will the American people see the returns he filed before he was running for president? Governor Romney is showing us what he does when the public is looking. The true test of his character would be to show what he did when everyone was not looking at his taxes.

Reid sure does like to ask questions. We have questions too, like, when will the American people see your budget?

But if Romney paid taxes, that means Harry Reid was lying… wow, if we can't trust even Harry Reid, I don't know what to believe anymore!

— Starz and Strypz (@StarzandStrypz) September 21, 2012

‘Horrible lie’: Mark Udall called out for Hobby Lobby fear-mongering

Senator Mark Udall, a Colorado Democrat, is running for re-election this year, so he’s got some Hobby Lobby fear-mongering to do:

Please, just stop!

Imposing the beliefs of Mark Udall and Democrats is apparently totally acceptable:

FRC shooting suspect: Floyd Corkins II; Update: Volunteered at LGBT org.

— Scott Thuman (@ScottThuman) August 15, 2012

Twitchy will monitor and update as new information comes in.

Update: As Twitchy reported earlier, this seems to be politically motivated. Where did he learn to hate FRC? Evidently, he was a volunteer at an LGBT organization.

Good move, dumbass. “@AP: More on Family Research Council shooting: Police identify suspect as Floyd Corkins II: -SC”

— Steven Bushong (@stevenfromohio) August 15, 2012

More from Associated Press:

Corkins made a negative comment about the organization before the shooting, but the reference was not specific, one of the law enforcement officials said.

The guard, Leo Johnson, was in stable condition and was being interviewed.

Corkins had been volunteering for about the past 6 months at The DC Center for the LGBT Community, said David Mariner, executive director of the community center, which is in Northwest Washington. He usually staffed the center’s front desk on Saturdays, and his most recent shift was about two weeks ago.

Matthew Yglesias implies national debt is no big deal because companies borrow all the time

The last time we checked in with Slate economics writer Matthew Yglesias, he was discovering the problem of long-term unemployment.

Now the wunderkind is back with another great insight. Companies go into debt quite often. Therefore, Yglesias implies, there clearly is no reason to worry about government debt.

Wait. What?

And there is supergenius Matt Yglesias, comparing government to business and pretending the reasons they go into debt are the same.

— Nathan Wurtzel (@NathanWurtzel) March 13, 2013

.@mattyglesias He would also know that negative cashflow affects payroll eventually.

— Melissa Clouthier (@MelissaTweets) March 13, 2013

Successful ones don’t stay there MT @mattyglesias: I wish Mitt Romney were around to explain to Republicans that businesses go into debt…

— Dan Isett (@DanIsett) March 13, 2013

@mattyglesias But not 81% of the GDP debt, and not perpetually over 50 years. Thats a crazy analogy.

— Mark Davin Harris (@markdharris) March 13, 2013

@mattyglesias do businesses that borrow 25% of their total revenue every year survive long?

— PoliSnark (@polisnark1986) March 13, 2013

@mattyglesias I wish someone would explain that government isn’t a business. You can’t fire citizens.
